ADSC

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Advanced Digital Sciences Center (ADSC) was established in 2009 with funding by Singapore¹s Agency for Science, Technology and Research. Located at the Fusionopolis research facility in Singapore, University of Illinois Electrical and Computer Engineering and Computer Science faculty members lead research in the fields of interactive digital media and smart grid IT. ADSC focuses on breakthrough innovations that are expected to have a major impact in transforming human beings' utilization of information technology.

Further information on ADSC can be found at http://www.adsc.illinois.edu.

MOSAID Technologies Inc.

Founded in 1975, today MOSAID is a leading intellectual property (IP) and innovation company. MOSAID licences IP primarily in the areas of semiconductors and communications, and develops advanced semiconductor memory technology.

MOSAID is currently focused on developing HyperLink NAND (HLNAND™), a high-performance, proprietary Flash architecture. Based on NAND Flash cell technology, HLNAND Flash provides the most cost-effective solution for mass storage applications, including Solid State Drives (SSDs).

The company recently demonstrated HLSSD™, a Terabyte-class SSD that delivers 2TB capacity over 4 HLNAND channels, utilizing a single FPGA-based SATA3 controller. In comparison, a conventional 2TB SSD requires 4 SATA3 controllers, plus a SATA3 hub controller, operating over 32 channels.

MOSAID is now jointly developing an HLNAND Flash controller with Novachips Inc. of Korea. Scheduled for completion in mid-2013, the HLNAND Flash controller, with 8TB capacity, employs multi-cores and will be implemented in 40nm process technology to deliver high-performance, low-power solutions.

MOSAID is also sampling the industry’s first NAND Flash Multi-chip Package (MCP) with a 16-die NAND stack operating on a single channel. The 512Gb HLNAND MCP combines a stack of 16 industry standard 32Gb NAND Flash die with two HLNAND interface devices to achieve 333MB/s output over a single byte-wide HLNAND interface channel. Conventional NAND Flash MCP designs cannot stack more than four NAND dies without suffering from performance degradation, and would require two or more channels to deliver similar throughput.

With 72 employees, MOSAID’s head office is in Ottawa, Canada. MOSAID also has offices in Dallas, Texas and Luxembourg. For more information, please visit www.hlnand.com and www.mosaid.com.
